Sheila Swasson
Co-Chair

Sheila Swasson, is a Mi'gmaq from the Listuguj First Nation in Quebec. Sheila received her BA=88 in Applied Social Science from Concordia University in Montreal. In June 2002, Sheila received graduated from the community based program - Community Wellness Worker Certificate Program delivered by Keyano College and the Nechi Institute.

Sheila has been the Supervisor of Haven House, a native women shelter situated in her community, since its inception 1991, and proudly boost that she continues to work with her original staff. Sheila has been involved in the formation of the National Circle since the initial meeting of First Nation Shelter Directors held in Winnipeg, Manitoba in May 1999.

Sheila is actively involved with the Network of Aboriginal Women Shelters of Quebec, under the guidance and support of the Quebec native Women Association. Sheila has also served as the Quebec Representative with the National Steering Committee for the Aboriginal Women Leadership Training Conference (2001-03) and has facilitated workshops each year during the conference.

Sheila is the mother of two teenagers and is very passionate in parenting them into healthy and responsible young adults.
